“The 422 SB is simply terrific, able to go low, play loudly-and most important-stay tightly focused at all times.” — Chris Martens, AV Guide Monthly

A perfect melding of high power and modest size
In addition to conventional distortion-reduction methods, Atlantic has incorporated special circuitry into the subwoofer amplifier that actually eliminates the deleterious effects that the enclosure itself has on the sound. That's why other subwoofers, regardless of their power ratings or their limiters, can't match the sound of an Atlantic subwoofer for detail and musical accuracy.

    Details

    422SB

The 422 SB features a 12” long-throw composite cone driver with a vented motor structure and 2” high temperature, 4-layer voice coil. This powerful driver has a very stiff cone that acts like a piston throughout its operating range, which allow its massive magnetic motor assembly and high temperature component parts to deliver exceptional performance and reliability.

By utilizing a sealed enclosure design, the 422 SB offers unusually low distortion, and delivers deep smooth bass response with a gradual and predictable roll-off below resonance. As with all Atlantic Technology subwoofers, we have paid close attention to balancing accurate musical bass reproduction with terrific special effects slam.

Featuring a specially designed amplifier capable of high current delivery for exceptional driver control and cool operation, the 225-watt amplifier in the 422 SB has been precision matched and equalized to work in tandem with our rugged 12" driver. Together they deliver powerful, controlled bass with unusual articulation and authority. Many subwoofers offer specifications that look great on paper, but in real world use deliver less than promised. Atlantic Technology subwoofers are over-designed to ensure that they will deliver their rated performance in your room, when properly placed and adjusted. Hence, the 422 SB boasts a working in room frequency response of 25Hz to 150Hz. Finally, as with all Atlantic subwoofers, the 422 SB features our exclusive Clear Filter Technology, which assures crystal clear output at all levels.

Utilizing an adjustable (40Hz to 140Hz) 18dB per octave Low Pass crossover allows the 422 SB much better bass integration with the satellite speakers while making the woofer less localizable. Meanwhile, the Phase Invert switch (Normal/Invert) allows precise acoustic matching with satellite speaker systems whose output may be phase reversed. This switch also allows you to compensate for unusual room acoustics that occur when the woofer is physically separated from the main speakers by a significant distance.

Other features the 422 SB offers are convenient front panel mounted Level Control and automatic standby operation with a multi-color LED status indicator. The automatic standby feature offers signal sensing turn-on with a 7-10 minute turn-off delay. There’s a multi-color LED status indicator that lets you know when the unit is on or in standby. Automatic Standby can be defeated by placing the rear mounted switch in the ON position. Finally, the 422 SB is designed and built to meet all current UL/CSA and European safety requirements, making it one of the most sophisticated subwoofers to be produced antwhere.
